Danske Bank backs  Matematikcenter

The Group will sponsor the voluntary organisation Matematikcenter for the next three years. The organisation offers free homework help to children and young people.

On 1 January 2012, the new voluntary organisation Matematikcenter started to offer free homework help to secondary school pupils and college students who are struggling with their homework in math and personal finance.

As the Danske Bank Group has developed initiatives to promote financial literacy since 2008, it has agreed to sponsor the organisation for the next three years. The Group will also sponsor a similar organisation in Sweden called Mattecentrum.

Help across all of Denmark
At the moment, only pupils and students in the Capital Region of Copenhagen are offered help, but Matematikcenter aims to extend its homework help to two other regions in 2012. Matematikcenter has made a three-year plan that will see homework help offered in as much as five regions in Denmark.

Tina Obel Lope, Head of Corporate Responsibility, says:

“We are pleased with the sponsorship of Matematikcenter. The Danske Bank Group already has a number of initiatives aimed at promoting financial literacy for children and young people, such as our Moneyville and Control Your Money educational universes. These initiatives will be part of the sponsorship, and the sponsorship will be a natural part of the Group’s financial literacy efforts.”

Project started in Sweden
Mattecentrum started the initiative to provide homework help in Sweden back in 2008, and the homework help has since spread to 12 cities and 40,000 children and young people in Sweden.
